We haven't been to Brecon for ages so, as we were going to the Grwdu we decided to stop there for a few days on the way. We stayed in this little house right beside the canal. It wasn't particularly nice but the location was perfect. View at the front
In previous years we have done a lot of up hill walking including Pen-y-Fan, the highest mountain in southern England. This year we decided to give it a miss. We climbed to the top of this hill though and the view was superb.

We saw lots of hang gliders. They looked as if they were in cocoons and they went miles.
Last time we were in Brecon, they had just started a programme to introduce Red Kites back into the area. They had been persecuted by farmers and gamekeepers as they thought they posed a threat to livestock. The breeding programme has been very successful and we went to a feeding station to see them close up. The birds had begun to gather a good 30 minutes before the feeding took place.
Trying to get a decent photo was almost impossible, so these photos are the best of the 50 or so I took.
Feeding station sounds a bit grand. It was a bloke with a dustbin full of chicken which he lobed into the air! Not all the chicken got taken. The local farmers had been ploughing all day and the birds had been able to feast on little mice and insects.
As the canal ran straight past the door we decided to walk along it for a while. We did 6 miles, there and back
We found a fabulous pub in Llangynidr and stopped for a drink. It was lovely. There was a lock a bit further up the river so we got to see lots of boats going past.
These next photos are from the bridge near the pub
Imagine this as your view everyday.
Lovely sunny day
Trouble is water always means nasty bitey things.
The view on the way back!
And.... Alpacas.
That looks lovely. Must go to Wales at some point.....
