The Gwrdu June 2015.

This is the third time we've been to this lovely part of the country. The weather was good, dry, sunny and windy. And cold !!

We were well wrapped up against the wind and cold.

Bit of a difference from last time.

These photos give an idea of how remote it is
This is the view from the start of our walk, the house is just behind us.

Checking the route. Don't know why I'm looking, I've not got a clue!

A bit of readjustment.

We were walking down to the reservoir and then we walked back along the road to the house.

This is a really good photo as you can see all of the out buildings as well. The barn is on the right, the generator is in the little building in the foreground and the house is the big building.

So here we all are enjoying a BBQ in the sunshine.

While we were on our walk the " farmer" who we had never seen had been in and tidied up the barn. Little did we know that the next day we were going to be surrounded by 250 sheep.
Here are some of them. The ewes were going to be sheared and the babies were being treated for worms and mites.

The farmer

The farmer being a bit silly wearing a fleece, it must have  still been warm.

The shearing begins

All the fleeces were taken off in one piece. They get taken to market where they are graded and sold.

Waiting for more sheep to arrive

Here they come!

THE GATE

There are about four gates to go through to get to the farmhouse. They are always shut so that the sheep can only access certain areas. Three of the gates are simple catches but the first one is a combination lock and a pain to undo.

This is that gate

Val going over, the other ladies had climbed over a small fence

This is Ray messing around

Eventually he climbs over. Note Malcolm's position.

Then this.

What happened next made us all gasp in shock. For reasons best known to him, he tried to do a flip over the gate. Not surprisingly he landed flat on his back. His glasses fell off and got squished and he got a cut on his head. Nobody actually took a photo as we were all convinced he'd killed himself!! I don't know what we would have done if he was injured. We had no signal and the nearest house with a landline was a mile away. Twit !!!.

Although the wind was cold we managed to find a sunny sheltered spot to watch the sunset and have a glass of wine

All mod cons in the kitchen.
No shortage of cups and plates.
It could have been warmer but we all had a great time and are looking forward to going again.
